Reverend Salvatore Anthony Busichio, Jr., 82 years old, died on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 in Raleigh, NC. He was born in Elizabeth, NJ on June 12, 1934 to the late Salvatore and Julia Busichio. He is survived by his siblings, Mr. John Busichio and Ms. Teresa Busichio, as well as by his devoted friend and caretaker, Mr. William (Bill) Findlay Jr.

Reverend Salvatore Anthony Busichio, Jr., 82 years old, died on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 in Raleigh, NC. He was born in Elizabeth, NJ on June 12, 1934 to the late Salvatore and Julia Busichio. He is survived by his siblings, Mr. John Busichio and Ms. Teresa Busichio, as well as by his devoted friend and caretaker, Mr. William (Bill) Findlay Jr.

After discerning a vocation to the Priesthood, he entered into studies in Philosophy and Classical Languages at Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ and upon graduation, began studies in Theology at Immaculate Conception Seminary in Darlington, NJ. Father Busichio was ordained to the Priesthood for the Archdiocese of Newark on May 28, 1960.

In the Archdiocese of Newark, Father Busichio served as Parochial Vicar at Saint Thomas the Apostle Parish in Bloomfield, NJ and at Our Lady of Peace Parish in New Providence, NJ. Additionally, Father Busichio served in priestly ministry in the Diocese of Trenton, as Parochial Vicar at Saint Pius X Parish in Forked River, NJ and also at Saint Justin Parish in Toms River, NJ.

Father Busichio was granted permission from the Archdiocese of Newark for service in the Diocese of Raleigh and in 2007, began priestly ministry as Parochial Vicar at Sacred Heart Cathedral and then also at Saint Michael the Archangel Parish in Cary until his retirement from active priestly ministry on April 30, 2014. Following his retirement, Father Busichio had private residence in Cary.

A meticulous record keeper, Father Busichio noted that prior to his final illness in 2015, in fifty-five years of his priestly ministry, he had offered 25,135 Masses, administered the Sacrament of Baptism for 2,009 of the faithful, officiated at the celebration of the Sacrament of Marriage for 333 couples and celebrated the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick for 546 persons.

The Reception of the Body and Vigil for the Deceased for Father Busichio will take place at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Raleigh on Monday, August 8, 2016, beginning at 6:30 pm with the Very Reverend Justin Kerber, C.P., presiding. A Visitation with family and friends of Father Busichio will follow this liturgy and will conclude at 9:00 pm. The Cathedral is located at 200 Hillsborough Street in Raleigh.

The Funeral Mass for Father Busichio will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Saint Michael the Archangel Parish at 10:30 am with the Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge, Principal Celebrant and the Reverend Monsignor Michael P. Shugrue, Homilist. Saint Michael the Archangel Parish is located at 804 High House Road in Cary, NC.

Interment will follow the Funeral Mass and take place in the Catholic section of Wake Memorial Park, located at 27002 Green Hope School Road in Cary, NC.
