Dorothy Reed Miller Gordon, 95, died March 28th, 2015, at her home in Efland, NC.

Dorothy was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, teacher, and homemaker.

She was born on April 6th, 1919, in Fulton, KY, and raised in Wilmington, NC. She went to Duke University for a year and then received her undergraduate degree from East Carolina Teachers College in 1939.

She married Thomas Frederick Gordon on November 26th, 1942, in Wilmington, NC. They remained life partners for over 70 years, until his death this past year.

Tom's military career took her and the family to stateside assignments in California, Arizona, Massachusetts, and Maine. They lived overseas in Japan, Germany, and Okinawa.

Throughout their military travels and once they found a permanent home in Raleigh, NC, when Tom became a math instructor at NC State, she was always actively involved in the Church and in community groups. She joined in her husband's love of sports and especially enjoyed many years of attending NC State athletic events. The two also were active supporters of Raleigh's cultural life, from the Friends of the College to the Raleigh Little Theater.

The last 35 years of her life brought the joy and wonder of continued relationships with her two sons and of being a grandparent and great grandparent.

The family expresses deepest gratitude to the many caregivers who enhanced the quality of Dorothy's life over the past few years.

Dorothy is survived by sons Thomas F. Gordon, Jr., of Winston-Salem, and Alexander M. Gordon (Ann), of Efland; grandchildren John A. Gordon (Liu Lan) of Beijing, China, William T. Gordon (Viktorija) of Durham, and Ann M. Gordon (Landon) of Charlotte; and great grandchildren Oliver Abernethy of Charlotte, Andrea Gordon of Durham, and Joseph Gordon of Beijing.

A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held on Wednesday, April 1st, at 2:00 p.m., at The Church of the Good Shepherd in Raleigh (125 Hillsborough St.).

Memorial offerings are suggested to Kanuga Conferences (Kanuga Pathfinders), PO Box 250, Hendersonville, NC, 28793-0250 or The Church of the Good Shepherd (Building Fund), 121 Hillsborough St., Raleigh, NC, 27615.
